Take Part

A drama group does not just need actors. A whole range of jobs, skills and tasks are involved in putting on a performance:

  • director
  • production manager
  • set design & construction
  • set painting & decoration
  • lighting design & operation
  • sound
  • stage manager
  • stage crew
  • prompter
  • costume design
  • costume makers
  • dressers
  • props
  • publicity
  • box office
  • front of house manager
  • ushers
  • refreshments

We are possibly slightly different to most other amateur drama groups in that we do not hold formal auditions and all plays are cast from within the group. At the start of the production process, whoever is directing will call a number of read through evenings to gather together all those members who are interested in being involved. The play(s) are read with everyone having a go at reading various parts. The initial choice of play may sometimes have to be changed to fit in with the members of the company available. Following these read throughs the director will cast the chosen play. In addition there is always the need for all the backstage roles to be filled, which are definitely not secondary to acting.

We try to produce the most professional productions we can, but this is never at the expense of everyone in the cast and production team having fun as the group is primarily an enjoyable social activity.

Our usual rehearsal / meeting nights at Finchley Methodist Church Hall are Mondays and Wednesdays from 8 til 10pm, although we sometimes rehearse on other nights using other parts of the premises.

Previous experience is not required, just enthusiasm, willingness to learn new skills and a commitment to the production.
